AMK PROMOTES WOMEN

Phnom Penh: AMK Microfinance Institution Plc. financial report first semester of 2018 shows that most of its borrowers are women which is more than 80% of total loan clients. Most of AMK’s clients are poor and living in rural areas. This figure clearly states that AMK has been actively involving in promoting the women who are living in the rural area to participate in decision-making on livelihoods and household economics.

AMK is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Cambodia. With its vision is to help Cambodian society where citizens have equal and sufficient economic and social opportunities to improve their standard of living and where they can contribute productively towards the overall development of the country. AMK has been focusing on developing its products and financial services to make it easier and convenient for our clients, especially women.

Mr. Kea Borann, CEO of AMK Microfinance Institution stated that “Providing opportunities for women to participate fully in family financial decision-making can help drive national economic growth and poverty reduction. In general, AMK has been developing other financial services that are very suitable for consumers, especially for women who are living in rural areas to have the opportunities using our services.”

According to the report, it shows that almost 300,000 of AMK’s clients are women equaling to about 80% of total loan clients and most of them are living in the rural area.

Mr. Boran continued that “if we look at AMK’s mission, AMK services poor people. So, when we talk about the poor, women and children are priority. Therefore, from year to year, AMK has established new financial products and services to fulfill our clients’ needs, especially for women in order to help them develop their family’s economy.

AMK is a leading Microfinance Institution in terms of outreach and borrower numbers. As of August 2018, AMK has a coverage of 89% of total villages across Cambodia with the number of staff over 2,600, total clients of over 810,000 with a loan portfolio of over USD240 million, and deposits of over US$ 126 million. The number of offices has reached 150, and over 3,500 agents nationwide. AMK provides a variety of financial services including Loan, Deposit, Money Transfer, Micro Insurance, Personal Accident Insurance, Payment Service, Payroll Service, Mobile Banking, ATMs, and CDMs.
